If your AppleWorks appears very sluggish, especially when first starting up or if you get the spinning CD cursor icon, this solution should solve your problem.
1. Open your Hard Drive and select Column View.
2. Navigate to the location inside your Teacher folder as shown below. Documents/AppleWorks User Data/Recent Items
3. Click on one of the items in the last column and then choose Select All from the Edit menu (Apple-A). Drag all items to the Trash. Choose Empty Trash from the Finder menu.
